Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Plans are being made for another outstanding Vacation Bible School. The goals of our Bible school are to build into the lives of our Roanoke children, to be the hands and feet of Christ, and to lead individuals to the Lord. The theme is “Game On,” and our mission donations will go towards the Huntington Special Olympics teams. This year, we are making extra special plans in conjunction with the Roanoke Lions Club and the Huntington County Community School Corporation. To coordinate this event with community organizations, Seminary will be hosting a daytime VBS. A kick-off event will be held on Sunday, June 17 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. The regular VBS lessons will take place from Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21 from 12:00PM to 3:45PM. On Sunday, June 24, the VBS children will be invited to church to perform their songs.
The full details of the kick-off are still in the planning stage, but the concept is a music concert with a block party afterwards. Instead of the traditional block party following VBS, there will be a block party the night before VBS, after the concert and sing along. There will be a free-will donation taken at the concert to benefit the Huntington Special Olympics teams. Then, on Monday, June 18, the soccer camp sponsored by the Lions Club will start at 9:00 AM at Roanoke park. The fees collected from the camp go to the high school girls’ soccer program, because the high school girls’ coaches and players run the camp and teach soccer skills. After the soccer camp, those students who want to stay for lunch and Vacation Bible School will walk up to the church. Lunch will be paid for through the summer lunch program sponsored by HCCSC. Then, the students will take part in an awesome Bible school, where joining God’s team changes the lives of everyone involved.
Seminary is so excited to make partnerships with other organizations in our community. In the near future, you will begin to see advertisements, flyers, and signs announcing this community event (soccer camp/VBS). Registration papers will be sent to all Huntington students. Last year, the soccer camp had 65 participants; we hope to match or go beyond those numbers this year. Additionally, Pastor Josh will help us apply for a “Creative Ideas Grant” through the United Methodist. If possible, we hope to have enough funds to pay for VBS supplies and Seminary t-shirts. The t-shirts would say, “Seminary” and “One Team, One God, One Goal.” We really feel the Lord is in this event because so many details have already come together.
Lastly, we want each of the Seminary families to be a part of these special events. Your help will be needed in the following ways: prayer, participation, send postcards, support, donations, showing love, clean-up, etc… to name a few. For example, you could lead a small group from one activity to the next. There are so many ways you can be a part of Vacation Bible School. Please let Jenny Gross (519-3241) know how you would like to help. In fact, you can go to the church website at http://seminaryumc.org/ to volunteer. There is a link under the outreach tab titled “VBS.” Then, click on the link titled “VBS Volunteers 2018.” Once there, you will type your name and mark what you would like to do. This will be the best VBS ever, and we need God working through you to change the lives of our children and community. Let’s advance the kingdom of God! Praise the Lord! Go God! God is #1! Thank you for all that you do to make Seminary a place where God changes lives!
